Creating a Modern Data Platform
A global food industry player optimizes its business strategy by monitoring commercial performance and managing sales after implementing a data platform.
Monitoring Sales Performance to Anticipate Business Needs
Our client is an internationally renowned French agri-food company specializing in cereal cultivation and winegrowing.
Within the context of selling its agricultural products (seeds, fertilizers, and phytosanitary products), the Group wanted to analyze and optimize the performance of its sales force in France and overseas. In particular, the goal was to improve the sales distribution among the various products to reduce reliance on specific products and secure margins.
Sector: Food industry
Size of the Company: Large (1,000 to 9,999 employees)
Technologies: Azure Synapse Analytics (Pipeline, Mapping Data Flow, Serverless SQL pool) / Power Bi
For example, although glyphosate will soon be banned in Europe, some sales representatives and farmers continue to rely heavily on this product for their business. To limit the business impact, glyphosate sales reduction targets have been set. These must be met before the full ban is implemented.
Cellenza was thus tasked with implementing a modern data platform to meet a wide range of fertilizer sales requirements, including sales forecasting and management, sales performance monitoring, national and international KPI harmonization, etc.

Implementing a Data Platform
Cellenza initially helped the group with the data platform architecture, specifically the selection of cloud tools and the medallion architecture.
Since the data came from many sources (operating systems, flat files, etc.) in different formats and volumes, our experts were brought in to tackle data ingestion challenges such as security, format choice, data lake organization, source connectivity, etc.
Cellenza then became involved in data processing (streamlining and optimizing processing and debugging existing processing procedures) and data publishing (making data available to users, managing stagnant data, creating the semantic layer, etc.).
Finally, Cellenza played an active role in deploying the platform and helped the group with the orchestration. In this way, our experts were able to meet the needs of the various data stakeholders (data engineers, data analysts, and data scientists) while ensuring a quick, high-quality production rollout with minimal impact on end users.

« Of course, our goal was to implement a data platform that would meet our client’s identified needs, but we also wanted to make sure it was scalable and could be upgraded to allow new use cases to emerge »

Missions carried out for this project
- Architecture design
- Component identification
- Data ingestion
- Data processing
- Modeling
- Active participation in platform deployment
- Orchestration
100% automated processing
The implementation of this modern data platform now allows the group to deliver higher-quality KPIs more quickly. Different stakeholders now have access to new KPIs and a consistent, shared view while maintaining data confidentiality (for example, the sales manager of one zone does not have access to the data from another zone).
This facilitates sales management and enables closer monitoring of the business strategy implementation while improving margins.
Finally, automated processing saves time, reducing processing costs by 30%.
